About…

Darren Barkett received his early teaching education at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Promptly thereafter he traveled the country looking for experiences and growth opportunities. Living out of his van, hiking up the west coast, living on the streets in southern Florida, and traveling up the east coast, Darren accidentally discovered the magic and beauty of western North Carolina.

On his first day in western North Carolina, he knew he’d found his new home.

Finally putting his hard-earned teaching license to use, he got a job as a substitute teacher. It wasn’t long before a nice tiny country school grabbed him up and started putting him through the paces of becoming a teacher. Fast forward twelve years and you find Darren working at Canton Middle School as a 7th grade Language Arts teacher. He is the mentor for young teachers and loves incorporating new technologies into his classroom environment.

Darren continues his pursuit of experience and growing opportunities by connecting with people around the world through social networks and collaborative technologies. His students love helping him maintain his wikispace while reading all about the wide world beyond little ol’ Canton, NC.

Working to help other teachers be more effective in the classroom, Darren has started this blog. Feel free to leave comments and questions you may have. Hopefully, this will become a valued resource for you and your own personal growth.
